Are Your Patients Compliant with CPAP?

Dr. Burton specializes in oral appliance therapy for patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. Oral appliances, technically referred to as oral mandibular advancement devices, are recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine as an effective alternative to CPAP.

Patients with OSA are evaluated to determine if they are candidates for therapy. A focused exam and health history are part of the initial evaluation to determine the best course of treatment. Dr. Burton is also one of the best in the business as far as taking an accurate impressions to ensure proper fabrication and fitting of each custom appliance. Our office follows the patient after the appliance is delivered by evaluating progress and communicating back with the referring provider.

How Do Oral Appliances Work?

Custom-made oral appliances advance the lower the jaw forward during sleep to maintain an open airway. A dentist trained in dental sleep medicine is able to select, fabricate, fit, and adjust these devices to help patients with mild-moderate obstructive sleep apnea or those suffering from severe snoring.

Dr. Burton use only custom, adjustable oral appliances for treatment. Published studies support these specific appliances as having the most effective impact on lowering AHI, increasing oxygenation, and improving overall symptoms.

  • Initial consultation to educate patient on treatment options, review sleep study results, discuss insurance coverage

  • Comprehensive Exam & X-Ray evaluating oral health and dental structures in order to determine candidacy for treatment

  • Series of adjustments based on patient symptoms to acheive optimal titration

  • Ongoing communication with physicians regarding treatment progress

  • Final titration sleep study for objective measurement of treatment success

  • Annual follow-up exams to assess treatment progress and condition of device
